Termite Cheerleaders

I am sending home a Termite Cheerleader Form today. It is due back by Tuesday, May 20.

Language Test

I totally forgot to add the +5 for the study guide last week on the language test. I am adding it on Achieve today for everyone.

Field Day

Dress appropriately for field day means: athletic shorts, t-shirt, and tennis shoes. No swim suits, flip flops, or sandals.

Field Day is Wednesday 8:00-11:00. Please dress your child appropriately.

Tests this Week

This week we will only have spelling, dictation, math, science, and reading vocab tests. There are a lot of things going on this week so we will not be able to fit in a language and reading test also. Reading vocabulary test will be a review test. It will be on words we have already had this year.

Powder Puff Game

The powder puff game is tomorrow. Sorry for the late notice, but if your child would like to attend they will need to send $2 tomorrow. Also, if they would like to get a box lunch of sandwich, chops, piece of fruit, cookie, and bottle of water please email me by 12:00 to let me know. The cost is $5.22. Again, sorry for the late notice.

End of the Year Party

Don't forget your money and t-shirt size for the end of the year party is due Monday, May 12. Also, it is a swimming party, so bring your swim suit!!!

Reading

We will only have a reading vocabulary test this week.

Today

I am sending home study guides for the science test and language test today. The language study guide needs to be done and sent back tomorrow. If you are attending the game tomorrow please send it back with your child on Thursday. If it is sent back tomorrow (Thursday for game people) they will receive 5 points on their test.

Baseball Game

Please email me to let me know if your child will not be here Wednesday because of the baseball game. Also, the office needs a note no later than tomorrow saying that your child will be attending the game. Thanks :)

Science

The science sheet on the butterfly that was sent home yesterday was not for a grade and did not have to be correct. It was our sheet for class yesterday but since we got out early we were not able to do it. I sent the sheet home for them to get a head start on the ones they knew. It will be gone over in class today and discussed, as it would have been yesterday.

Science Test

For the science test this week:

The sheet that is going home today will be part of the study guide. Return it tomorrow for 5 points on the test. They will need to know the vocabulary that was sent home yesterday and the parts of the butterfly.

School Dismissal

School will dismiss today at 2:00.

AR

AR is over next Friday, May 2. If your child has already reached their goal for this 9 weeks I am not allowing them to take anymore AR tests. Even on small books. If they make bad on a test it could pull their average down and they will not have time to make their goal up. They are still going to check out books to read for fun during AR time. We still have some who have not made their goal, so they still need AR time to take tests and read their books.

So sorry, on the homework page I forgot to change Monday back to Friday on the bottom where tests are listed. Reading and Language tests will be tomorrow!!

Awards Day

Awards day will be Monday, May 19 at 9:30.

End of the Year Party

Our end of the year party will be Thursday, May 22nd at Kelly Sanders' home. It will begin at 10:30. We will not come to school on that Thursday. We ask that you bring your child there at 10:30 for the party. We are asking that each child send $10 by Monday, May 12 to help with the cost of food. In the next few days I will be sending home a note about the party to get a count on who will be attending and more information.

Green Week

Green Week will begin tomorrow Tuesday, April 22 and last until Tuesday, April 29. Our grade has been asked to bring plastic bottles. This can include drink bottles, milk cartoons, etc. any bottle made of plastic. I will be sending home green plastic bags with a 2nd grade label on them home today. Please fill this bag up and send it back. We want to get every green bag from our class filled to the top!!!

Movie Under the Stars

The movie under the stars is tomorrow night, Thursday April 17. Gates will open at 6:45 movie will start at 7:30. Tickets are available in the office for $1. The movie being shown is Madagascar.

Tests Thursday

For Thursday we will only be taking our spelling (retake), language, and math (speed drill and test, no multiplication). We will take our trail spelling test Wednesday. We will take our reading vocabulary and comprehension Monday. I will send home the study guide tomorrow.

State Project

Sorry for the late posting on this, but we were told no homework during SAT. So I have been trying to wait until we were almost finished with testing to post.

Here are the guidelines:
1 full sheet of poster paper
These will be presented to the class on the assigned day.
These can be pictures, sentences, etc. If pictures they will need to give a brief description of the picture, so others will know what it is when they present.

-state flag
-population of the state
-land forms or type of land in the state
-major industry in the state
-facts about the state (fun facts can be included)
-how many electoral votes the state has
-capital and other large cities in the state
-Governor of the state
-how many counties are in the state
-fun things to do within the state (you do not have to list all just some)

You can add anything else you would like. All of these do not have to have pictures. They can be facts written on the poster or typed on a sheet of paper to go beside the poster.

These posters will be in the hall for others to view after they are presented to our class. Your child may bring something they have from the state they are assigned or wear something from the state they are assigned. It is not mandatory though.

Easter Egg Hunt

Our Easter Egg hunt for this year is being hosted by Stephanie Campbell. It will be Thursday, April 17th at 10:30. We will come to school that morning and take all of our tests for that week, since we will be out on that Friday. At 10:30 we will depart from school to go to Stephanie's house. I am in need of 3 volunteers to drive our class from the school to her house. I will be taking my car, so some can ride with me. We will need 3 other cars also. If you do not mind doing so please let me know ASAP :)

Students need to bring filled eggs to school by Tuesday, April 15. Please send 12 eggs. These will be given to Stephanie, and will be hidden for the students to find on Thursday. We are really excited about the Easter Egg Hunt and can't wait for the 17th!!!!!

SAT Tests

Next week will begin our SAT. We are so excited about taking these tests! We have been working really hard on some SAT practice, and are ready to take the real thing. Remember next week:

        1. Get a good night’s sleep. Send them to bed early so they will be bright eyed and ready for testing in the morning.

        2. Eat breakfast. Make sure they get their breakfast every morning so they are able to focus on their testing.

        3. We will be testing all day, all week so there will be NO homework!! We want all of our focus next week to be on SAT.

        The week after the SAT we will start back with our Science. SAT prep has taken the place of our science over the past few weeks. We only have 2 chapters left in our science book, so we will finish those up; then we will begin with some fun Social Studies things to finish out the year.

        This is a very bright group, so I know we will have no problems with the SAT. Our prep has gone really well over the past few weeks. They will do great!! If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Children not going tomorrow

If your child is not going on the field trip tomorrow they will need to stay at home. There will be no one here for them to stay with. Thank :)

Field Trip

We will be departing the school at 6:00 on Thursday. This means everyone needs to be here by 5:30, so this gives us PLENTY of time to make sure everyone is accounted for. You may bring snacks on the bus if you know your child will get hungry. If you want to bring breakfast with you on the bus that is fine also. As far as dinner goes, Lego Land is inside a mall, so we will go to the food court before we leave to grab dinner to take on the bus with us. If you do not want to buy dinner there then you may pack something to bring. Lunch for all is paid with your payment. If you have anymore questions please email me. PLEASE WEAR FIELD TRIP SHIRTS!!!

This Week

There will be NO tests this week. The 8s and 9s will be taken when we get back from spring break. Please work with your child this week on reading AR, so we can get ahead on our goals.

Field Trip Thursday

For our field trip next Thursday, March 20, everyone will need to be at the school at 5:30 am. The bus will be pulling out at 6:00am sharp. If you are not here by the time the bus leaves you will be left. We have a VERY tight schedule to follow. We are looking at being back in Troy around 8-8:15ish. It could be later. We will still have school on Friday, it will not be excused. 

Language Study Guide

Number 11 on the language study guide was a mistake. I called myself checking over them, but I must have overlooked that one. Sorry for the mess up!

Lunch Tomorrow and Friday

For lunch tomorrow Zachary's mom is bringing pizza for his birthday. You do not have to send lunch unless your child does not like pizza. She will also be bringing juice.

Friday lunch will be a sack lunch if you would like to order your child one for Friday please send me a note tomorrow. We will be dismissing at 12:30.

Language Study Guide

I am sending home the language study guide tonight. It is very easy! If it is brought back tomorrow they will receive 5 points on language test this week.

Next Week

Due to getting out next Friday at 12:30 we will take our tests on Thursday. We will not have a reading comprehension test at all next week. The unit is poems and they are very short. We will only have a reading vocabulary test. We will take our language test on contractions. It is very simple and we have been over contractions many times. I know they will do fine. I will be sending home that study guide Monday. We will do our math tests on Thursday as usual and multiplication 6s and 7s on Thursday also. I hope this is fine with everyone but it will be very rushed for me to get them done and graded if we do them on Friday. I will not be here the following Monday, March 17th, so I need to get them graded as soon as possible. Thanks :)

Homework

Today I sent home language study guide, reading study guide, and a math workbook page. If the language and math are sent back tomorrow they will revive 5 points on math and language test. 

Field Trip

Ok so for the Field Trip the last payment was suppose to be $86 not $84. If you did not pay the trip in full could you please send $2 tomorrow for the rest of the payment. So sorry about the confusion!!!!

Parents

                Thank you for being so patient with this new reading program. We are still trying to figure out many things that go along with the program. The program is mostly digital, so we are working the best we can with what we have been given. Next year, with the mimeos, it will be much more user, teacher, and student friendly. There are videos, lessons, and games that go along with our series; but, we cannot do those as a class because of the limited technology. The worksheets could also all be displayed on the board for me to go over with the students as they are done.

                As far as the language goes there will be notes given and worksheets done. Notes will be given almost everyday. These notes come out of my teacher reading book. Worksheets will be done every week as long as my printer and computer are cooperating with me. There will also be a language study guide sent home each week that is close to the test.  All of the workbooks are digital, so next year with the mimeos they can all be projected on the board to be done as a whole group class.

                Reading: There will also be a study guide sent home as early as possible. Everything on that study guide may not be gone over in class at the time it is sent home. There are many things in our new reading series that is to be built on from grade level to grade level, so I am trying my best to work around them not having this reading series in 1^st grade. This has been a challenge, but we are slowly getting it together.

                Writing: We are working the best we can with our writing. Since beginning cursive it takes up a lot of time. We are writing and will be doing more writing. I will send these papers home as we do them and they are given back. Our new series has writing built in, but it again is building on 1^st grade. Therefore, I was not able to just pick up where they left off when we received the new reading series.

                This series has been very challenging for Mrs. Rogers and I, especially since we are not familiar with the series at all. It was given to me later in the school year, so I have tried to adapt to it without technology as best as possible. Thank you for being so patient with it all; because, believe me it has been very challenging to do all of this my first year teaching after Mrs. Campbell, who knew the reading series, left. As far as homework goes there should be no more than an hour spent on homework a night. I am no longer sending home the math and language homework sheets, so that should’ve cut down on some homework. I review all the material the students should know for the test in class, and we read our story during the week. Again, thank you for your patience and if you have any questions please email me.

Study Guides

I am sending home the reading and language study guides tonight. If the language study guide is sent back tomorrow complete then I will give 5 points on the language test Friday. I will send it back home tomorrow to study.

Field Trip Money

If you have not sent in your final payment for the field trip the last day is this Friday, February 28.

Homework

I am sending home a homework sheet that needs to be done for homework and sent back tomorrow finished. If it is sent back tomorrow there will be 5 points added to the math test or speed drill, whichever is needed most.

Eagle Cam

Last Field Trip Payment

So sorry for not reminding about the last field trip payment, being out last week got me a little behind. The last day to send it in will be this Friday, February 28th. The last payment if both are going is $84, child only is $40. PLEASE try to get it in ASAP so we can send the final payment. Thanks :)

Play Plan Change

Change of plans for the play next Friday: It will now only be 4-12. They are afraid it may be a little much for 3rd and under, so do not worry about sending the $2.

Tests

I will be sending home tests today. The speed drills are from this week and last week. I took the best of the 2 grades for their speed drill grade this week.

Play Next Friday

The seniors will be putting on a play next Friday, Feb. 28th at 10:00 for the student body. It is called Cafe Murder and is a funny comedy. The admission is $2.00 please send this money in by Wednesday, Feb. 26th.

Multiplication Test

We will have a test on the 0's and 1's Thursday with our math test. This will be a timed test.

Money Due Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the LAST DAY for Daddy Daughter Dance money and Jump Rope for Heart money!!!

Valentine's Day Party

As of right now our Valentine's Day party is cancelled. Yesterday the class had a sub because I was out sick. I did not get a good report at all from the sub. This is not the first time this has happened. We have had the talk that they should treat a sub the same way they treat me. That they should even act better for a sub then they do for me. Subs that come into Pike base other classes off of the class they sub for, our class is not giving the subs a good example by any means. If these subs go out into the community and tell people about the terrible class they subbed for it reflects Pike and myself. This is very upsetting to me!! Please talk to your child about their actions when a sub is present. I have tried many times and it has not worked, maybe coming from you will help. I will decide between now and then, depending on their actions if we will have a Valentine's Day party. If we do not have one I will send your money back home next week.

Friday

Don't forget Daddy Daughter Dance money is due this Friday, the 14th, it is $30! 

Also, Jump Rope for Heart money is also due Friday! Students will jump 18-20.

Homework Sheet

There will be no homework sheet going home this week. I will be sending home multiplication 1-12. Please start reviewing these. Beginning next week we will start taking a test a week on each set. Next week will be factors of 1. It will be a timed test, kind of like speed drills. I will not be counting the speed drills this week. From now on it will be based on the grades. They have thrown in some of the new material and we are not getting good grades.

Science

There will be NO science test this week. We will begin reviewing for the SAT.

Spelling

PLEASE remind your child to check their spelling when they are given sentences to combine or rearrange, and also when they are given notes on the board. When words are spelled for them their is NO reason they should not copy/spell them correctly. I will start counting off for this if it continues.

Tomorrow

DO NOT FORGET FIELD TRIP MONEY IS DUE TOMORROW if you have not already paid!!

Valentine Party

Our Valentine Party will be Friday, Feb. 14. I am asking that each child send $1.50 to cover the cost by Wednesday, Feb. 12. PLEASE send this money in so we will have enough to cover goodies and juice for every child.

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for heart papers are going home today. The money is due by Friday, Feb. 14 and students will jump Feb. 18-20.

Speed Drill

The speed drills from 2 weeks ago were not very good. I am not going to count these grades. I am sending them home for you to review with your child. I gave them the extra 5 points if they brought their sheet back on their math test.

This Week

Since we missed last week we are just going to start it over this week. :) All tests that were going to be last week will be this week on the days they normally are. We will have a science test this week and I am sending the study guide home tonight for that test. I am also sending the reading study guide home tonight.

Atlanta Field Trip

Our 2nd payment for the Atlanta Field Trip was due last Friday but since we were not in school I am extending it until this Thursday, Feb. 6. PLEASE make sure you send your payment in by this day. Our last payment will be due Friday, Feb. 21. I put this on the calendar I am sending home today.

NO SCHOOL tomorrow or Wednesday!! I sent home a note this afternoon with information about the tests. Hope everyone is safe and gets to have some snow :)

Math this Week

We had some sad speed drill grades last week, so this week I am going to give a borrowing worksheet on Wednesday for another grade this week in math. PLEASE practice borrowing with your child every night. It will be 2 and 3 digit subtraction.  

Tomorrow

Electronics may be brought tomorrow as long as the child has parent permission to bring them.

Last Week's Tests

The tests from last week have not been sent home yet. I was not here on Friday and it is a short week so I have been working on getting them graded. We also had a few that had to be made up so I was trying to get as many made up as possible. They will be sent home today.

Math Page

I sent home a math page we worked on in class. Some did not even try and some got confused. I sent it home tonight to be finished and corrected. If they return it in the morning they will receive 5 points on their math test or speed drill, whichever it is needed on the most. Please work with them on borrowing some have the concept and are just getting slightly confused.

Field Trip Information

We will be leaving for Montgomery Friday morning no later than 8:15.

Dress:

Please dress your child nicely to go to the Shakespeare Festival. Dressy-casual would be what I would say to dress them. It is going to be very cold so make sure they have plenty of layers. NO FIELD TRIP SHIRT OR JEANS! We want our kids to look very nice. Girls can wear color pants or leggings and a cute top.

We will be going to Jason's Deli for lunch.

Reading/Science Test

Mrs. Rogers was nice enough to make us a study guide for this week's reading test. I will be sending it home tonight with the science study guide.

Reading Test- study the study guide and the 10 long e words.
Science Test- study guide and the vocab words in Chapter 9.

Friday, Jan. 17 and next week

I will be out this Friday so we will take our dictation test tomorrow so I am able to call out the sentences to them.

Next week is a short week for us (Monday-holiday, Friday-Shakespeare Festival).We will not be doing reading or science. We will do spelling list 19 ( I will send it home tomorrow so you can begin studying, trial test will be one Wednesday), language (we will review present, past, and future tense verbs and have a little quiz on Thursday), math we will have our regular test on Thursday.

Today I am sending home a letter about lunch when we leave the Shakespeare Festival. If you could PLEASE return that paper by Friday at the latest. If you could send it back tomorrow that will be great since I will be out on Friday.

Math Information

Please review borrowing with your child EVERY NIGHT. We are still having a lot of trouble with it. They need to know how to identify when they are to borrow. They also need to pay attention to their addition and subtractions signs. Many students are coming to ask me if they borrow on an addition problem. Please look at the math sheets that are sent home each night and review the borrowing problems on them. Thanks!

On the language test this week everyone will have to know the difference in a present and past tense form of the verb have.

New Calendars

I sent home new calendars yesterday in your child's folder. We will be using these now instead of weekly calendars. They will color each day what color they ended on for the day. If there is any information you need I will try to write it on the calendar. If there are any behavior problems you need to know about I will write this on the back of the calendar. Please check and sign your child's folder/calendar every night. I will check on sign them the next morning. This will let me know that everything is getting home where and seen. Please remember to clean their folders out also. The math pages that are sent home can be kept and any language or reading worksheets sent home can be kept also. If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
